The vice-president of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) was appointed Malaysia’s 9th prime minister following the resignation of his predecessor Muhyiddin Yassin. Nearly a quarter of Malaysia's parliamentary constituencies — 53 out of a total of 222 wards — contain plantations operated by Malay voters under the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) scheme.
